Ep 12 Pt 1: It’s Your Last Chance for American Pie w/Thomas Ian Nicholas + Lani Sarem

In Part One of a freaking hilarious SQUADCAST(enh, they’re all hilarious, come on), we sit with Thomas Ian Nicholas, star of American Pie (and some other things) and a musician in his own right, and his filmmaking partner/author Lani Sarem to talk about – well, we go all over the place. THAT’S WHY THERE ARE TWO PARTS.

We start with Thomas hijacking the Squadcast intro with a caller question; then…

  • Lani !@#$s up “Monster Squad”
  • Thomas’ first big gig (and his start into acting in the 80s)
  • Roles you may never know Thomas played (unless you are a superfan)
  • Ryan share some Kids Inc. tidbits
  • Who has Disney ties (and who’s just “Disney-adjacent”)
  • “They tried to put the !@#$ing ears on us!!”
  • Thomas’ audition process for The Rookie of the Year
  • Lani asks for details – DEEP details
  • Skydive vs. Skydove
  • A Kid in King Arthur’s Court
  • Where is the “I” in “Team?” (It’s everywhere)
  • American Pie (and why they REALLY made all those sequels)
  • Country music math
  • How Thomas discovered his younger American Pie fans (or, how they discovered him)
  • Lani is immortalized in Squadcast, then promptly pulls a Lani
  • Our responses to “You look exactly the same!/You look totally different!”
  • What Jason Biggs’ character would do in American Pudding: the Geriatric Sequel
  • Pissing off all of New Zealand
  • Another slice of pie
  • Thomas finally realizes he’s been calling Ryan “Adam” this whole time. (Is Ryan related to Adam Lambert?)
  • Thomas and music (specifically: his original music)
  • Ryan reminds us that he loves Disneyland (and why)
  • Thomas talks about playing Walt Disney (in 72 languages)
  • Do NOT put Walt Disney down in front of Adam, er, Ryan
  • Disney’s real bio, bank balance, and (literally intricate) pathway to success as a filmmaker

Part Two coming very soon! Pour that refreshing summer beverage and press that little triangle button. NOW.

Producer/actor/musician Thomas Ian Nicholas was in that one movie you REALLY liked (and its sequels), but his history in the industry goes back to when he was just a wee little Thomas. A musician in his own right, his band (Thomas Nicholas Band) has released six albums and is currently embarking on a world tour. Recently, Nicholas portrayed Walt Disney in the “Walt Before Mickey,” about the struggles of Walt‘s early life and career. He produced/starred in the upcoming “The Lost Tree” with Michael Madsen and Lacey Chabert. You’ll also see him as Martin Scorsese in “Zeroville” with James Franco, Megan Fox, Seth Rogen and Will Ferrell. In 2017, Nicholas will be heading to New Orleans to star in the upcoming SyFy flick entitled “Trailer Park Shark.”

Lani Sarem is the first cousin of NSYNC member JC Chasez and also the first cousin of AMC’s Small Town Security, Joan Koplan. (JC and Joan are not related though.)

Lani began acting at age 3 and continued to act and perform through her early years. Lani started writing scripts when she was 11 and over the years has done everything from writing, acting, band managing and helping start and work festivals. She’s managed bands like the Plain White T’s and Blues Traveler and toured with everyone from Ryan Adams to Gnarls Barkley. Lani has appeared in films like Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and Jason Bourne; she can be seen as Roxy in Trailer Park Shark on the Syfy channel this July 2017.

Thomas and Lani’s current project, HANDBOOK FOR MORTALS, is set to premiere in August 2017 and is already in the works to be made into a motion picture.
